“Why Bad Things Happen To People” (Luke 13:1-9)

March 7, 2010 10:30 A.M.

Our natural tendency in life is to look at things with a sort of Karma perspective.  That is to say, “Whatever goes around, comes around.”  In some sense this is true, as the Bible does declare, “That which you sow, you will reap.”  But there is also a broader sense in which this is not true.  The truth is the whole world is fallen and corruptible because of sin.  Therefore bad things will inevitably happen to us as we live in this fallen place.  The good news is that we are not bound to this life forever:  there is a way out.  What is it?  Pastor Jim Erickson brings us a message from God’s Word entitled, “Why Bad Things Happen To People.”

THE RESCUE: God’s Story from Genesis to Revelation ~ “The Prophets” (Isaiah 52:13 - 53:12)

February 28, 2010 10:30 A.M.

Up until this point in our story we’ve found out that the One whom God will send to rescue us will be a Prophet King. He will lead us into all wisdom; He will place all evildoers under His feet. The people heard this and waited with great anticipation for the day their powerful leader would arrive. But now, in the Prophets, there is a sudden turn, a different picture emerging of not just a Prophet King, but a Suffering Servant. Could this be the same person? How could it be?

January 17, 2010 10:30 A.M.

We have all gone to someone’s house for a meal. How many of us have been tricked or deceived about the true meaning of the invitation? Today, we will look at how Jesus was invited to a meal with the Pharisees, who were setting a trap for Him. See how He counteracts that trap and shows the Pharisees their true hypocrisy.

THE RESCUE: God’s Story from Genesis to Revelation ~ “King David” (1 Samuel 9 & 13)

January 10, 2010 10:30 A.M.

Few men throughout history have the reputation of King David. A skilled fighter, military strategist, and a strong impressive King, David was most certainly a gifted man. Yet, from the Bible’s standpoint, what most made him great was not any of the skills listed above; rather it was His faith in the Lord’s Promise. Indeed, the same can be said for us. What does this faith look like? This morning, Pastor Erick will continue in our series, “THE RESCUE: God’s Story from Genesis to Revelation”, as we get to know more about King David.

THE RESCUE: God’s Story from Genesis to Revelation ~ “The Story of Two Kings” (1 Samuel 9 & 13)

January 3, 2010 10:30 A.M.

King Saul seemed to have everything the world would want in a king: tall, strong, handsome and wealthy. Yet, he failed. King David, on the other hand, seemed to have the odds stacked against him. Yet, he succeeded.  Why? We again take up our series, “THE RESCUE: God’s Story from Genesis to Revelation”, contrasting the story of two kings.
